Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Mount Juliet golf course first opened in 1991 with a friendly match between Jack Nicklaus and Christy O'Connor Snr. Since then the course has established itself as a premier venue for top professional and leisure golfers from around the world. This was highlighted when Mount Juliet hosted top golf players such as Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington for the WGC American Express Golf Championship in 2002 and 2004.
Just a few short miles away is the famous Adare Golf Club a Robert Trent Jones Senior designed championship parkland set in 230 acres of lush countryside. There are also a number of other courses within easy driving distance

The adjoining Kenmare Golf Club is a gem of a parkland course. A most enjoyable 9 or 18 holes can be reserved any day. Trolleys are available from the front door of the hotel. The Ring of Kerry Golf and Country Club located three miles from Kenmare is a challenging course with stunning views of the Kenmare Bay and rugged Beara Peninsula.
Occupying a stunning and unique headland, only 15 minute drive from our door and reaching out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean, the Old Head of Kinsale is home to the most spectacular world-class golf course and luxury members' accommodation. The course, par 72, comprises five Par 5s, five Par 3s and eight Par 4s - stretches from the ladies' tees at 5,413 yards to over 7,100 yards from the tips, with a minimum of six tees per hole making it suitable for golfers of all handicap abilities. Nine holes play along the cliff tops with all eighteen holes providing unsurpassed ocean views. With the ever-changing sea breezes, the course provides a stern but fair test to the touring pro and the high handicapper alike.
One of the country's oldest courses, the nine-hole Otway, is just a few minutes' away from Rathmullan House. Portstalon Golf Club is a beautiful twenty-minute drive and the magnificent Rosapenna course about half-an-hour.
Rathsallagh House is very lucky to be surrounded by the magnificent Rathsallagh Golf Club. It is a championship course measuring close to 7,000 yards with a par of 72. The Club was originally opened in 1994 by the O'Flynn family, however, since 2015 it has been under new ownership. While Rathsallagh Golf Club is a separate entity to Rathsallagh House, the team would be delighted to assist in arranging tee-time reservations etc.
Rosleague Manor is in close proximity to the Connemara Golf Club.
If golf is your game then you are well placed in Tankardstown. From lush, green parkland to rugged coastal dunes, it is unbeatable for choice and quality of golf. Just a short drive from Tankardstown you'll find Headfort Golf Club, an outstanding 36 parkland facility with comprising the old and the new course. In complete contrast, Baltray links course is set on the coastline of the Irish Sea on a generous site of 190 acres or Killeen Castle Golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, home to the 2011 Solheim Cup completes our favourite trio in the area. Tee times can be booked through reception when staying at the lodge or coming for a wedding or corporate event. The nine-hole golf course offers stunning views of Lough Ramor and features narrow tree-lined fairways which are a challenge to even the most experienced golfer. Virginia Golf Course is renowned for its friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Golfers are spoilt for choice with access to three fantastic courses, all within a 15 minute drive, Wineport Lodge is the ideal base for teeing off a golfing break. Glasson Golf Club is home to one of Ireland’s most scenic and challenging 71-par courses. Much-missed golfing legend Christy O’Connor Jnr, described it as “…one of the most scenic pieces of land I’ve ever seen in my life”. Mount Temple Golf Club is just ten minutes or so from Wineport Lodge and offers panoramic views and undulating fairways. Athlone Golf Course is the oldest of the bunch and dates back to 1892. It’s picturesquely located at Hodson Bay on the other side of Lough Ree, which surrounds the course on three sides.
